Work in progress...
Jan. 3rd, 2023 15:54Inspired by a mitten project in the latest 'Easy Weaving with Little looms' magazine, I decided to work up a prototype for a new critter.

Scribbled a quick drawing, wrote up some notes- it's a good thing I rely on the written notes more than i do my drawing skills, because I serious lack in those anymore. Got a rough idea of how many squares I need in each of the 2 colors I plan to use.

Decided to work up the prototype using left over squares from the Owls. While I like these colors ( Lion Brand Yarn Heartland in Grand Canyon and Arcadia), they likely will not be the final colors. And of course I don't have enough left over in these colors, lol. So I pulled out the Redlands squares, and the Caron Simply Soft in Harvest Red, because I think I have enough for a prototype, and it doesn't need to be the final colors.
Here's hoping it works...

Still here...
Dec. 12th, 2022 12:48Congestion is finally easing up. Should be able to go back to hapkido class on Weds. Giving martial arts a couple more days since that's a bit more active and has more people involved.
Still masking regardless, despite no one else around here seeming to bother.
Need to figure out if I need a customs form for Canada shipping. It's been years since I shipped anything to Canada, so don't remember and things may have changed. I just hope they aren't expecting it by Christmas, because that's doubtful at this late point.

Almost finished with Mark's replacement elephant stuffie. He lost the original in the Atlanta Airport, TSA line. Believes it fell out of his backpack when he pulled his lap top out and he didn't notice until he got home. This one has stuffed arms and legs, as well as a more stuffed body and head. I also put a couple sachets of dried lavender, cloves and broken up cinnamon sticks in the head and body. Need to find my buttons for the eyes. Should have it finished by Thursday, just in time for his birthday.
Lots of house finches, sparrows, tufted titmouse, blue jays, cardinals, wrens at the feeders lately. Ran out of deer corn for the crows and they let me know about it. Seen a few Juncoes lately- means snow is on its way.
Got a late start on Christmas goodies this year. Hoping to get the 3 boxes that need shipping, sent out by Sat. Almost burned the base for my Lebkuchen, trying to warm it up enough to beat the egg in, forgot I'd turned the stove on under the pan until it was boiling. Welp, it'll be good and flavor melded at least.
New cookie this year- Sour Cream Biscuit cookies. Made with sour cream, they apparently puff like a biscuit- hence the name, but resemble a sugar cookie. The tang from the sour cream is interesting in a good way.
Also need to make Egg Nog Snickerdoodle cookie dough. And get the stuff to make Capt Crunch Candy for Mikayla and Dale, but that can wait until next week, since that doesn't get shipped. Thankfully, Mark took next week off, so we can take our time remaking cookies for family/friends *here*.
Also need to make more of this year's ornament for family/friends here. Have enough for the shipped boxes, at least.
Anyway, back to weaving I go...

Nov. 29th, 2022 12:15First, the stuffies, etc that will be listed this week-

Owls and Gingerbread Houses...

Dogs...

Cats...

Sharks...

Foxes...

And Pumpkins!
Second... didn't do as well as we'd hoped at the last local event for the year. No one did. People just weren't buying. They were window shopping and visiting.
I did sell 2 out of the 4 dogs, a cat, a shark, the rabbit, and several ornaments, so it wasn't a complete waste. Made booth fee back, made next year's booth fee, made enough for lunch for the two of us and to buy some utterly delicious homemade fudge that will last us 6 months or so (we literally eat wafer thin slices at a time, being very concious of being diabetic/prediabetic).
Quite a few first time vendors came around, asking if we'd done this before and if it was always this slow as far as sales. No, this year has been bad for handmade sales at local events everywhere. People just aren't buying. Other things are more important.
I stopped doing events where I sell absolutely nothing- that may be to my detriment, but if I'm not even making booth fee, what's the point?
I may try a christmas market next year. Especially since my line of handmade ornaments is up to nearly 2 dozen now.
I will say though, if I had a dollar for every person who told me my pieces were 'cute', 'adorable', 'gorgeous', well, I'd have made out like a bandit.
Ah well.
Next Crash City Con is in August 2023, so I need to find a hedgehog weaving pattern, make a prototype Llama, make more Werebunnies, a couple more Sharks, Dogs and Cats with built in pouches, Raccoons, and Bears. Also need to finish that fool Penguin. And figure out next year's ornament.

Lot of wind, rain and tornado warnings here today, thanks to TD Nicole. House is closed up, cats are accounted for, kennels within easy reach in the event something does spin up here. Meanwhile, working on weaving.

Got the pumpkins put together last night. Just need to weave a few leaves for them.
And now on to bird stuff...

Wednesday's bird list includes two new birds!

A White Crowned Sparrow and a Ruby Crowned Kinglet!

Today's bird list, before the weather went bad again, also included two new birds!

A Hermit Thrush and a Swamp Sparrow!
And that's the state of things here...

Busy, busy...
Nov. 10th, 2022 12:55
Crunch time to finish my list of things I wanted to have for next Sat's local arts & crafts event.

Managed to up my quota of handwoven, inexpensive scarves by 6, hoping to get 2 more done. That should bring me to nearly a dozen. Have one on the rigid heddle loom (see top photo), & two more planned. Doing plainweave means they go quick.

Need to work on this year's handwoven ornament & gingerbread houses, after I finish the large pumpkins- because the pin loom used has a different/wider sett, they need a liner.
Martial arts class tonight, then back to work. Tomorrow, it's a rain day thanks to Nicole, so great day to do nothing but weave all day.
Fun times. And now, more iced coffee.

Nov. 7th, 2022 12:55Photos from our road trip to the gaming store in Lexington 2 weeks ago, along 43 and the Blue Ridge Parkway. We hit Peak Color at that point-

One from the parkway and one from 43.

Peaks of Otter from 460, and the private drive across from our drive.
Now, after rain last week and over the weekend, most of the trees are bare or well on their way to being.
Got our new dice from Black Oak Workshop. I picked a set from this latest run specifically with Morrigan in mind-

Void kitty was not impressed with the Void kitty dice and wanted scritches instead.
I think our thermostat is dying. It's not keeping time, back light quit working and it keeps throwing up odd errors. *Of course* the owner's manual that came with the house for it, tells me jack and shit. Need to do some online digging instead. *sigh*
Got a couple new bird feeders via Chewy, as well as suet. So all the feeders got cleaned and refilled. The plant stand that sticks in the yard got put back up, only we can't find one of the hooks for it. Likely buried under leaves. New feeders got put on that, and it was put in the middle of yard- in range of perches but not so close for squirrels to jump onto or Leo to wrap around. The double shepherd's hook was loaded up with single block suet feeders and put outside the bedroom window, again, far enough from trees that squirrels can't jump on it, but close to perches for birds.
They've discovered a few of the new feeders already and revisited older ones that are refilled. Definitely on a migration route for several birds.
Keep hearing what I believe is Nighthawks (Nightjars). Unfortunately they don't 'talk' long enough for the bird app to pick it up and id them. so I'm not positive. but they're most active right before dawn and right after dusk. They're really loud when they're right outside the window too.
Anyway. Back to doing laundry and weaving. Need to finish a few more scarves, gongerbread houses and ornaments by the 18th.
