2nd cousin 3x removed-
"Sylvia was left on the doorstep of an orphanage where she grew up. Her father, Byron, left her there but stayed loosely in touch with his daughter. It is told that her mother was a white woman while her father was Indian (possibly Pennock tribe) and the tribe would not accept Sylvia into the community.
Sylvia grew up at the orphanage and had the particulary daily chore of sweeping the front steps. Across the street, a young man named Samuel also had the priviledge of sweeping the steps of the hardware store where he worked. These two ended up eloping and giving birth to Frank Harrison Detwiler, our grandfather.
Sylvia's mother remains unknown."
Not a bit of that is true.
There is no Native American in the Pennock line. I am a direct Pennock descendant. Her mother is Rosa Russell Rought. There are birth documents, marriage certificates, death certificates that all contain that information.
There is no such thing as the Pennock tribe.
There's the Pennacook Tribe, but they are not in Michigan. (They are also called the Merrimack and Pawtucket.) They are in New England, closely related to the Abenaki.
My head hurts.
